Listen: NFL Trademark Podcast

February 12th, 2013

Thinking about getting creative to get around the NFL’s trademark rules? You wouldn’t be the first, but as our latest podcast points out, there are plenty of challenges that go along with this strategy.

It has only been a week since the Baltimore Ravens hoisted the Lombardi Trophy to win Super Bowl XLVII and signal the end of the NFL season. But as a multi-billion dollar entity, the league’s issues around trademark and intellectual property infringement loom large all year long.

Last week, trademark law expert Greg Korn of the law firm Kinsella, Weitzman, Iser, Kump, and Aldisert, LLP talked to Leonard Lee about the pitfalls that await firms that try to tackle the NFL’s intellectual property restrictions head on. Korn examined what companies are doing to work around the NFL’s stringent rules, and whose side the law comes down on when these issues are taken to court.
